RECESS

RECESS undoubtedly my favorite vintage shop in Los Angeles. Filled with an eclectic and refined curated assortment of all our favorites Chanel, Saint Laurent, Valentino, Dior, Gucci, Fendi, and much more. You can see why it’s exactly as it sounds “Recess” an adult playground. As the founder of Recess, this is Marie’s vision a “Playground” to shop, have fun and play just as you did when you were a child.

Nostalgia plays a big role in Marie’s approach to her shop and style. Growing up her parents exposed her to music, travel, art. She reminisces of her dad playing Frank Sinatra “My Way”, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr. and later her own 90s hip hop influence like Warren G “Regulate” and others. Growing up in L.A her parents took her to open houses, she would save the flyers with photos of home interiors; this is when she started to develop a love for mixing pattern, print, and decades-basically “no rules” apply and naturally developed her eclectic style. The travels as a kid visiting museums, people watching, eating different food were early influences to her refined, eclectic, and fun approach.

CURATED VINTAGE

Each piece has a story, each piece is special and thoughtfully chosen. There’s a sense of confidence and most important emotion when she’s curating-“buying”. Curating comes natural to Marie, this is probably why her refined eye and personal style shines through. While in the shop nothing feels forced, her warm approach and easy going attitude is felt through out the shop. It’s a vintage playground, fun and lighthearted; just like her personal style completely effortless. A great pair of denim jeans, silk blouse with details and layers of delicate jewelry.

Fun Statement Accessories

For Marie being an L.A native and growing up in the neighborhood, La Brea Blvd had always been a dream to open up shop. 2013 was the year and not to sound cliche but “It was meant to be” and the rest is history….

Marie, my sincere gratitude for letting me profile you and Recess, I am forever grateful.
