About a week ago I spontaneously ran into Barry at his new shop, SUPER VINYL. A modern twist on nostalgic record shops. The shop is filled with an eclectic range of vinyls all alphabetically curated. From ROLLING STONES, KENDRICK LAMAR, MARVIN GAYE, MGMT, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RIHANA, OTIS REDDING, THE RAMONES AND KHRUANGBIN all next to each other and ONE-OF-A-KIND turn tables hand painted by local artist. This is something Barry wanted for his shop a unique creative spin on turn tables, music and more..
The music playing from the turn tables is just perfect, when you’re at the shop theres a feeling of ease and comfort, authenticity. While in the shop he introduced me to KHRUANGBIN a super cool music trio known for global influence of soul, dub and psychedelia. This is what I love you may be coming in for a specific vinyl and walk out with a few extras of new music discoveries. Music, being in the shop with costumers comes natural to Barry, he’s in his element. Maybe this is nostalgia, full circle from his first shop in Miami as a teenager to now this low key ultra cool vinyl shop on Sycamore Avenue.
I am undoubtedly grateful to Barry for letting me profile SUPER VINYL as my first post. Most importantly, because he gave me my first job launching my career, the many many good times we had working together growing a brand and mostly for the human being that he is.
